Autumn Inspires

This season, to me, has always been such an inspiration. I think it's the brisk air coupled with the bounty of amazing colours our mother nature has to offer.
I remember a specific Autumn I discovered that indeed red and purple match! I think I was 14 at the time and feeling particularily awesome about the way I dressed. I also developed my love of cupcakes around this time - not eating them persé but looking at them. (I still like looking at them) All those colours and the freedom to use whatever available to the season. Nifty. Not to mention that one could imagine how these wee sculptures of yum would taste. Mmhmm

Now I travel through the internet on my quest for nifty stuff. During my quest of lovlies, I discovered Tim Holtz! Wow I think I love him as much as I love Matthew. *winks* Tim does not sell his stuff, but I did find a source that does and we will be carrying nifty bits in the shop very soon. I would not put his items directly on a baked cupcake, however they certainly lend themselves to adding another dimension to cupcake art!

Watch for our gear cupcakes! In the meantime , we have other bits coming in regularily so we can all flourish creatively in our baking, decorating and crafting endeavours. Happy day!

Pass The Butter ... Cream

As I perused through one of my Grans recipe tins, which is an awesome little trinket on its own! I found a recipe that was titled Buttercream Frosting. OK simple enough, no, not really. It is outlandish how much butter goes into this amazing little frosting recipe. What are you thinking, maybe a half cup? Nu-uh! Read on.

Grans Buttercream
6 egg yolks
2/3 cup sugar
1/2 cup corn syrup
2 cups softened butter (I can see certain cupcake gurus eyes go huge. Natalie Slater comes to mind after watching her on you tube)
Grease a measure cup and set aside. 1or 2 cup size will do. Beat the yolks in a large bowl until very pale in colour *this is important and then set aside. Combine sugar and corn syrup in a saucepan and bring to a rolling boil (don't use a flimsy pot) Stir constantly. Pour the syrup into the greased measure cup. Ok ready. Beat the syrup into the egg yolks into a steady stream avoiding the moving beaters (you all know why) You are beating this until the mixture is cool.
Now one tablespoon at a time beat in the butter. This is totally worth it to watch how this evolves! Once all your butter is fluffed in use it right away or store tightly sealed in the refridgerator. You are gonna love the feel of this in your mouth!

I have beaten cotton candy extract into the buttercream, as well as melted 71% dark chocolate YUM! We also now have Neilsen Massey extracts in our online store. You know the ones Martha uses. Yes THAT Martha! So we are going to try the coffee and the lemon. I will update you as soon as I can. You can click our link for that. Cheers!

The cups conundrum, and the incredible finale.

Oddly even at Sweet Cuppin Cakes mistakes happen. ;o)
As Meghan and I tried to sort through why the liners did not fit her friends pan we finally measured them! Whew, Quickly figuring out there was an oops ... which is not good for a wedding! We quickly fixed the mystery and glad we did. Congrats on your Wedding and I absolutely love the pink and brown! Excellent work by your friend!

"Hello! It's Meghan, I bought chocolate brown cupcake wrappers from you a couple months ago and you so generously sent me new ones because I received the wrong size... Well I kept up my end of the deal and here are some cupcake pics from the wedding! Hope you enjoy!! Thanks again! Meghan"

My Techno Baker 2

As I climbed around on the internet feeling like an alien on a new planet my son would snicker and under his breath call me techno baker. Seriously I would rather bake and decorate a cupcake than to build one in adobe photoshop! Not to mention the uploads and losses as the webstore was being built. Still a work in progress as I am not pleased with what came out of my adobe oven yet! Now back to my techno baker Lynne VanB ... so talented and shared many of her cupcake endeavours with me. This is truly one I want to share, with her permission of course *winks* I have also enclosed a snippet of her email so you know how this techno baker 2 accomplished this.
"Hi Lindsay,
The Mexican project is finished and
delivered! My new cupcake liners sure
came in handy. As promised, am sending
some pics. The sombrero is built out of
rice krispie square stuff and decorated
with royal icing so it was nice and hard to
hold the cupcakes. Client was pretty
excited!

400 Amazing cupcakes and a story to inspire

I recently had the pleasure of helping a customer (now friend) with her cupcake event. I like to call it an event as anyone who has done this will know. "Oh cupcakes" easy ... "I'll do it" then the panic sets in when it actually comes down to pulling it off. Jodi with her amazing organizational and research skills pulled it off. Too bad we don't get to "taste" over these blogs! Waaaaaaay to go Jodi!!!! You are an inspiration. xo
