Customer Top Hallowe'en Picks

Hiya Everyone! Did not think I would get a Customers Picks page up! I managed!

The wavy candles are indeed by far the best seller. I mentioned this before, but truly you have a lot of time to blow these out! 50 minutes burn time. This is exciting because that gives you time to change your socks!

The spider wrapper jumps in second place as it is showy and gives all your hard work a frame!

If indeed you do not want to go into that expense ... double cup, sure c'mon this is totally acceptable and quite showy in its' own glory.

Edibles ... Sweetmelt tm Halloween Eyeballs 100% edible are a HIT! I can hardly wait to see the creations entered in our contest this Halloween. Customers are daring! An Ice cream topper you think, not so, thinks my Fan of these ... Raedeen who is now on her second bottle 0f Ice Cream Crunch. The creamsicle and oreo cookie are perfect for your Hallowe'en fare. If you need more ideas or simply must have MORE stuff, head t0 our webstore quickly to beat the postman this Hallowe'en. http://www.acupcakery.com/

See you there!

Slime Cupcakes

There are so many blogs out there and so little time. Today I found a cupcake I have yet to see before. Behold! The Slimooze! http://bakingbites.com/category/holidays/
Last year, I celebrated Halloween with a batch of Vampire Cupcakes. The cupcakes were filled with a gooey, thick cherry pie filling that made the cupcake look like it was bleeding when you bit into it. I planned on baking more this year, but couldn’t help but wonder if I could take the concept in another direction to make another Halloween treat to complement it. I started by thinking of replacements for the oozy blood filling and came up with the idea to put a bright-green slime filling inside. After all, what could be oozier than slime?
I will leave the rest for the bakingbites blog to tell you. I love that blog!

I came across A Fanciful Twist in Etsy. Lots of talent here. Vanessa is a brave one as she is hosting a blog party. Here is How Vanessa works this:

Or plain old pj's and spooky (or non spooky) movies!! Anything, anything, anything goes."
I will then make a special place in my sidebar a couple days before the party, with a list of everyone participating, and we can visit eachother's blogs on the day of the party.

The Cutest Sort of Cupcakes

I saw these in Country Living Magazine and they are just too cute not to share. Aren't they adorable? Baked up in mini bundts, filled with buttercream (recipe can be found on this blog) then lightly glazed and garnished with fondant stumps and vines. I tried them in a cupcake pan but they looked ridiculous. So much so I could not even publish the photo. The bottom bundt needs to be trimmed so it will sit flat.

I have not tried my own little mini bundts but have every intention in doing so for Thanksgiving. Oh my lucky little family!

A Blog of Chocolate and a Cupcake Fondue

I recently stumbled upon a blog of chocolate during my internet travels. Truly a decadent blog, with a lot of fabulous ideas.

What caught my eye was the use of a crock pot for a fondue. A CHOCOLATE fondue. Can you imagine the cupcake fondue you could do with that? Cupcake bits, fruits, a couple types of fluffy fruity dips and voila!

I did contribute a little bit to the blog, as we do have a cupcake fondue appliance in our store. For the more intimate times when you just need to melt a half pound of chocolate ... not 5 pounds. Although I clearly plan to use a crock pot this Hallowe'en for all my neigbours and wee treat seekers.

What you may not know is that chocolate has to stay in "temper" Basically meaning that the temperature of the chocolate must be controlled. Otherwise, it blooms! Yes. bits of white all over your gorgeous dipped treats as they cool. Not so pretty. The candle under our fondue pot does just that. It keeps your chocolate in check so that you do not have to worry about it misbehaving!

What a perfect way to entertain and use up your unfrosted cupcakes.

Available in Red for $14.99 set

Cupcakes and the Salivary Gland

This entry today, is not so much about cupcakes. Inderectly it is, and it is certainly cute like a cupcake.

As many of you know, my 10 year old son is Autistic. He is an integral part of why I began an interest in cupcakes in the beginning. If it is in a cupcake, he will eat it! Frosted or not. Like many who buy cupcakes, seems that is his own personal bit of Yum! Seriously who is going to share a cupcake?

The other piece of information you will need for this little story is that Em is our little medical doctor. In his class he studied a very small text book piece on the digestive system. That was not good enough for him. He needed the entire Barron's Flash card collection on the digestive system. (this is used in med school)
Now my story.

This morning I had put out chocolate cupcakes. These have no eggs, they are full of flax and crushed beets. They are also choc full of blueberries and vanilla. I do not use marg or butter in these, I use an oil rich in omega 3. I left them out on a plate, as I figured if I did not give him one, I could avoid having to answer his Inspector Clouseau investigation as to what they do, or do not contain. He is studying health in school now, and truly turning into a health fiend.
Em: wow these look good.
Em: (to his stuffed animal) let's have one
Em: OOOOOH MY GOD!
Em: (to his stuffed animal) I think I swallowed one of my salivary glands with this cupcake, now I have the hiccups.
Em: MUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUM!!!!
Me: I am sitting in my chair now, wondering how to explain this one to him. Have a great day everyone!

Autism Awareness Walk Winnipeg

Chilly morning! As fall is getting braver the weather is getting colder. The leaves are coloured and the air is brisk. An absolute perfect day for Sweet Cuppin Cakies and Starbucks Coffee! Here is what Meaza from Starbucks on Academy and I did. We donated yummy stuff for the ASM walk because we are both awesome! Not to mention how much we care about this particular cause. On the left are our chocolate choc chip and they are eggless! On the right our strawberry cream. (those flecks are real strawberries the pink is natural, no food colouring here!) At the top we are particularily happy with our puzzle piece cupcake toppers. Under those toppers are our red velvet cream and our chocolate cream cup cakies. I did not take a pic of the coffee because we all know what Starbucks coffee looks like! Better yet that delicious burst of warmness on a chilly morning. YUM! Good luck to all the enthusiasts who came out to walk for the cause and eat treats!

My Little Techno 2 Baker is at it again!

It is always wonderful to see what everyone is up to in the cupcake world.
Seriously, I love seeing what people create. (sidebar, I also like hearing what people create) I think it shows the gestalt of a being. Having said that, my little Techno Baker has been up to her old tricks again. Enjoy!

Also I must add what Techie 2 emailed me because she is awesome!

" Hi Lyns,Am enjoying your blog so much...check almost every day when time permits. Have a technobaker haha for you (actually, really sad)......as the premier "follower" of your site, I went back to leave comments and found that the password I thought I used for my Technobaker 2 account is not being accepted.... this is really strange. Have come to the conclusion that in my hurry (and probably in the dark....usually the conditions under which I am using the computer)....I hit some random keys which have been saved as the unknown password. Man oh man! Anyways, will have to carefully open a new account and start over. Am sending you a few more pictures. Your cupcake liners have been absolute life-savers....what a difference they make to presentation, and my special cupcakes for special occasions (not common at all here!) are creating quite a stir!!!!! Will be placing another order for more "Lyns stuff" very, very soon. Hope you enjoy! (By the way, your gram's recipe for buttercream is a variation of a "French buttercream", although the corn syrup is a twist. A really sophisticated recipe to find in the cookie tin!!!! I can't wait to try it.) NoTechnobakerAtAll :( " Lynne really is a techno B 2!!!

Wavy Cupcake Candles

For some reason I could not let this day go by without boasting about the wavy Halloween candles we received into stock. They really are not just a candle. They may look like just a candle, but in fact, they are wavy candles! But wait ... there is more. These candles burn for 50 MINUTES!!!! Do you know what this means? There is time to make the right wish, time for photos, time for ambience, there is even time to change your socks!!!!

I would be remiss if I did not tell you they are food safe and drip free. Also, these little fellows are not lasting long in my shop. Packaged in a package of 24.
These candles are 7" X .25" Pretty classy don't you think? And only $4.50

I think Halloween is a great time to have candle light and make wishes.
Visit the store to check out our other Halloween treats.

Autumn Inspires

This season, to me, has always been such an inspiration. I think it's the brisk air coupled with the bounty of amazing colours our mother nature has to offer.
I remember a specific Autumn I discovered that indeed red and purple match! I think I was 14 at the time and feeling particularily awesome about the way I dressed. I also developed my love of cupcakes around this time - not eating them persé but looking at them. (I still like looking at them) All those colours and the freedom to use whatever available to the season. Nifty. Not to mention that one could imagine how these wee sculptures of yum would taste. Mmhmm

Now I travel through the internet on my quest for nifty stuff. During my quest of lovlies, I discovered Tim Holtz! Wow I think I love him as much as I love Matthew. *winks* Tim does not sell his stuff, but I did find a source that does and we will be carrying nifty bits in the shop very soon. I would not put his items directly on a baked cupcake, however they certainly lend themselves to adding another dimension to cupcake art!

Watch for our gear cupcakes! In the meantime , we have other bits coming in regularily so we can all flourish creatively in our baking, decorating and crafting endeavours. Happy day!

Pass The Butter ... Cream

As I perused through one of my Grans recipe tins, which is an awesome little trinket on its own! I found a recipe that was titled Buttercream Frosting. OK simple enough, no, not really. It is outlandish how much butter goes into this amazing little frosting recipe. What are you thinking, maybe a half cup? Nu-uh! Read on.

Grans Buttercream
6 egg yolks
2/3 cup sugar
1/2 cup corn syrup
2 cups softened butter (I can see certain cupcake gurus eyes go huge. Natalie Slater comes to mind after watching her on you tube)
Grease a measure cup and set aside. 1or 2 cup size will do. Beat the yolks in a large bowl until very pale in colour *this is important and then set aside. Combine sugar and corn syrup in a saucepan and bring to a rolling boil (don't use a flimsy pot) Stir constantly. Pour the syrup into the greased measure cup. Ok ready. Beat the syrup into the egg yolks into a steady stream avoiding the moving beaters (you all know why) You are beating this until the mixture is cool.
Now one tablespoon at a time beat in the butter. This is totally worth it to watch how this evolves! Once all your butter is fluffed in use it right away or store tightly sealed in the refridgerator. You are gonna love the feel of this in your mouth!

I have beaten cotton candy extract into the buttercream, as well as melted 71% dark chocolate YUM! We also now have Neilsen Massey extracts in our online store. You know the ones Martha uses. Yes THAT Martha! So we are going to try the coffee and the lemon. I will update you as soon as I can. You can click our link for that. Cheers!

The cups conundrum, and the incredible finale.

Oddly even at Sweet Cuppin Cakes mistakes happen. ;o)
As Meghan and I tried to sort through why the liners did not fit her friends pan we finally measured them! Whew, Quickly figuring out there was an oops ... which is not good for a wedding! We quickly fixed the mystery and glad we did. Congrats on your Wedding and I absolutely love the pink and brown! Excellent work by your friend!

"Hello! It's Meghan, I bought chocolate brown cupcake wrappers from you a couple months ago and you so generously sent me new ones because I received the wrong size... Well I kept up my end of the deal and here are some cupcake pics from the wedding! Hope you enjoy!! Thanks again! Meghan"

Thanks for sharing! Lyns

My Techno Baker 2

As I climbed around on the internet feeling like an alien on a new planet my son would snicker and under his breath call me techno baker. Seriously I would rather bake and decorate a cupcake than to build one in adobe photoshop! Not to mention the uploads and losses as the webstore was being built. Still a work in progress as I am not pleased with what came out of my adobe oven yet! Now back to my techno baker Lynne VanB ... so talented and shared many of her cupcake endeavours with me. This is truly one I want to share, with her permission of course *winks* I have also enclosed a snippet of her email so you know how this techno baker 2 accomplished this.
"Hi Lindsay,
The Mexican project is finished and
delivered! My new cupcake liners sure
came in handy. As promised, am sending
some pics. The sombrero is built out of
rice krispie square stuff and decorated
with royal icing so it was nice and hard to
hold the cupcakes. Client was pretty
excited!

400 Amazing cupcakes and a story to inspire

I recently had the pleasure of helping a customer (now friend) with her cupcake event. I like to call it an event as anyone who has done this will know. "Oh cupcakes" easy ... "I'll do it" then the panic sets in when it actually comes down to pulling it off. Jodi with her amazing organizational and research skills pulled it off. Too bad we don't get to "taste" over these blogs! Waaaaaaay to go Jodi!!!! You are an inspiration. xo
